Questions, answered.
Getting started
How long is the trial, and do I need a card?
Fourteen days, and no card is needed. If you don't subscribe, the account becomes read-only. You can still read, print and export everything.
How do I move my existing cases in?
Paste a CNR, import a spreadsheet, enter a bar number, or take a photo of a page of your diary. We read the page into rows, and you check them. Matters not yet filed, with no CNR, are fully supported. Past hearings and statutory dates come in with each case. Nothing is added until you press Import.
Which courts does it cover?
You can add matters in district and sessions courts, the High Courts and the Supreme Court. Tribunals work too: NCLT, NCLAT, DRT, DRAT, CAT, NGT, RERA, consumer forums, ITAT, GSTAT and labour courts. Tools for a specific court, like court complexes and fee schedules, start with Delhi. Holiday calendars are ready for Delhi, Maharashtra and the national list.
Which devices does it run on?
The phone and tablet apps run on Android today. An iPhone version is planned. The web app works in any modern browser. The client portal is made for phones.
Daily use
Where does e-Courts data come from?
Every night we fetch the cause list and supplementary lists by CNR. Each change shows on one screen for you to check. Nothing changes your diary until you confirm it. Matters not yet filed, with no CNR, are fully supported too.
Does it work without internet?
Yes. The phone app is built to work offline. Tomorrow's board, today's brief and the outcome sheet all work with no signal. Everything you enter is saved on the phone. It syncs when you are back in range.
How do statutory deadlines work?
They are kept apart from ordinary tasks. We work them out from the starting event, the rule and the court's holiday calendar. Reminders go out 30, 14, 7, 3 and 1 days before, and on the day itself. From seven days before, the partners are told too. No one can snooze a statutory date. To dismiss one, a second person must sign off.
Can I tell clients what happened without typing a message?
Yes. Record the outcome and we draft a message in the client's language. That can be Hindi if that is their language. You check it and send it with one tap, by WhatsApp, SMS or e-mail. WhatsApp is used only for clients who have agreed to it. Everyone else gets SMS or e-mail. Every message is saved to the case.
The assistant
Can the AI tell me the law?
No, and that is on purpose. It picks out directions and dates from the orders on your file. It always shows the page it used. It will not say what the law is. That is your job and your responsibility.
What can “Ask this file” see?
Only the documents on that file, and only what your role is allowed to read. A clerk can see less, and the screen says so. Every question and answer is logged on the file.
Does it create tasks or change dates by itself?
Never. Directions from an order are shown as suggested tasks. You tap to create them. The next date is read from the order. If you change it, your change is logged.
Data, access and security
Who can see my cases?
Only the people your firm allows, by role and by file. Our staff can't read case data. The database does not let them open your tables. If you want our help, you give us access for a limited time. That support session is logged.
Can my clerk see everything?
No. A clerk sees less. A client's identity shows as “Hidden”, and privileged notes never reach the clerk's device. You can limit interns and outside experts even more. Give them only named cases or one set of documents, with an end date.
Can I keep a file away from a partner?
Yes. Only the people named on a restricted file can see it. Partners are not added on their own. Reports count restricted files but do not name them.
Where is my data stored?
You choose your firm's region when you register. It cannot change after that. The privacy notice tells you where data is kept, who can see what and for how long. It also tells you how to reach the grievance officer.
What happens if a phone is lost?
Remove the device from the web app. The next time it connects, it deletes all data stored on it before it shows anything.
Money and billing
What happens if I stop paying?
Your account becomes read-only. You can still read, print and export every file. We never hold back a client's file over unpaid fees. That is true for our fees and for yours.
Can clients pay online?
Yes. The client portal has a Pay now button. Indian firms use Razorpay for UPI, card or netbanking. US firms use Stripe. A payment counts only when the payment company sends a signed confirmation. A click alone never marks it paid.
Does it do GST invoices?
Yes. It handles forward and reverse charge, invoice numbers in strict order with no gaps, part payments and receipts. Money you spend for a client is marked as a pure agent cost or a recharged cost. You cannot add a markup to a pure agent cost.
Can I export to Tally?
Yes. For each period we make a Tally XML file (ledger masters and vouchers), a QuickBooks IIF file and a Xero manual-journal CSV. Client money is recorded as a liability. The same period always gives the same file. So importing it twice changes nothing.
Connections
Is there an API?
Yes, a read-only API. Each key reaches only what you allow. Webhooks tell you about outcomes, new cases, invoices, payments and documents. We show a key only once and store it in scrambled (hashed) form. Webhooks are signed. They never carry a note or an identity document.
Is there a US version?
Yes, a US pack is built. It has FRCP, FRAP and FRBP timing with the Rule 6 rollover. It has New York and California limitation periods. It also has IOLTA three-way reconciliation, LEDES export and PACER import. Our focus today is Indian firms.
